MAC
The Merit Art Collective was birthed from a mutual understanding between creatives and people working in the creative/arts field that although we are all connected - locally, internationally - through networks and communities, we are often working in isolation and are often reliant on institutions due to an inherent power imbalance between the independent and the established.
In A creating a network of likeminded, independent (curators, artists, writers, designers, etc.) we consolidate an index of names and possibilities to collaborate, to support and to exchange worldwide and B the MAC is a legal and bureaucratic tool to use to apply for project funding. With it’s headquarter in Berlin, Germany it operates worldwide.
We understand the precarity of arts workers and the volatility of the art ecosystem where each country, each city and place is governed by the complexity and circumstances of its political and social parameters. While we are connected as never before, enabled to work remotely and to travel through and for our projects we are growing a platform that can bring us together, consolidate our creative minds and to strengthen our independency.
The business model is simple and transparent - through membership fees and donations the administrative costs are covered for the MAC to function. Through each project budget the accounting is covered and through institutional funding we are able to grow its operation. This guarantees each project to stay independent and each project lead to focus on the creativity instead of the admin.
The network model is simple and transparent in the same way. We have established an index where all of our members have access to information and contact details to other members, stating possible connecting points, projects, and searches. This allows to connect and to exchange independently from the MAC projects.
Thus the MAC is a global network and a creative funding tool for extraordinary projects - anywhere.
